The Referral Process

Your general practice veterinarian must refer you to us in order to be seen by our specialists. This is typically done with the general practitioner believes that your pet would benefit from the experience, knowledge, or skills of a specialist.

Your veterinarian will contact our office and provide us with the appropriate information so we can schedule your consultation appointment with one of our doctors. Each of our specialists require a consultation appointment first so they are able to fully examine each patient and establish a doctor-patient relationship in order to proceed with the needed treatment.

The veterinarian will go over all treatment options with you, and discuss in detail their recommendations for your pet. Together you will decide how you would like to proceed. Your primary veterinarian will be sent your pet's medical history after each visit so they are aware of all treatments and recommendations made to you and your pet.

BECAUSE WE ARE A REFERRAL VETERINARY CLINIC, WE CAN ONLY TREAT THE PROBLEM FOR WHICH YOUR PET WAS REFERRED TO US.

It is important to remember that our specialty veterinarians are ethically responsible to you and your referring veterinarian for treating only this problem. Our specialty veterinarians are also ethically bound to limit discussion, diagnosis and treatments to that particular problem and how it relates to the overall long-term health of your pet. Our specialty veterinarians will always be available to you until this particular problem is resolved, however your primary veterinarian will take care of any non-related health problems occurring at the same time. After the resolution of this problem, you will be discharged back to the care of your primary veterinarian.
